Space 1999 eagle transporter build
My own build.
I intend to and have stated to build a studio scale replica model of the classic spaceship from the 1970's TV programme Space 1999. The best starting point for me being the centre section, the passenger pod.
Good quality plans are available, once purchased the pod was sketched out to build from flat layers of MDF and Styrene, these CNC routed.
The images below show the stages of the build, pods are almost complete. The Eagle might not be finished until 2019; I am expecting a 5 year build!

Eagle Assembly and Finishing
Eagle Brass and Metalwork
Spare Brass Spine
The second spine was made from spare parts left over from manufacturing with a small group of model makers hosted at my work place. We produced the fish mouthed aluminium on the CNC machines, I thought about a second model for a while but in the end sold the brass kit for the cages and CM / Engine frame. I built the spine for sale as well (need to feed the hobby and continue my build).
CNC Routing and Fabrication
3d Printing, Tooling And Resin Work
Kit Bashed Greeblies
The large studio scale Eagle Transporter model from Space 1999 needs many parts sourced from many different model kits, the forums are a good place to track these down and get hold of them without buying the kits. Actually buying the kit is often necessary; in cases several kits would be needed to use just one or two items out of each.
I make replicas by making a silicone tool and resin casting. Saves me a little bit of cost, although the silicone is expensive.
Other detail parts could easily be made by scribing thin Styrene but I make use of my CNC router for this. Simply using double sided tape to stick sheet Styrene down to some scrap conti-board.

And some bespoke 3d Printed Greeblies for my Star Wars Death Star tiles.
Check out my builds on the Space 1999 / Eagle Transporter forums.
These are fairly detailed and I don't fancy repeating the notes here; the comments from other members are just as interesting and more informative than anything I can say.

44" Eagle Build
I don't really use the forums anymore, although great for continuity, not much interaction since most are on Facebook now. I tend to stay off the regular Space1999 Facebook groups. The Facebook groups became a bit of a bore after the Round 2 model came out and I cannot keep explaining, "the Eagle I am building is not Round 2 and there is a purpose for the brass work". You will find me on a couple of Spaceship modelling and scratch building Facebook groups where the interest is less devoted to the Round 2 model (which is a great kit, I have one).
